Kata bilangan terdiri dari tiga macam:

1. Kata Bilangan Utama (Cardinal Number)

Bilangan kardinal adalah sebuah bilangan yang menunjukkan sebuah kuantitas. Bilangan ini digunakan untuk menyatakan hitungan dalam menghitung benda, menghitung umur, menghitung waktu, menghitung anggota suatu himpunan, dan lain-lain. Bilangan-bilangan tersebut seperti 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 dan seterusnya.

Berikut adalah Cardinal Number dalam bahasa Inggris:

0 = zero, nil /zi:rou/ /nil/

1 = one /wan/

2 = two /tu:/

3 = three /thri:/

4 = four /fo:r/

5 = five /faiv/

6 = six /siks/

7 = seven /sevən/

8 = eight /eit/

9 = nine /nain/

10 = ten /ten/

11 = eleven /i`levən/

12 = twelve /tweləv/

100,000 = one hundred thousand

200,000 = two hundred thousand

1000,000 = one million /wan milyən/

2000,000 = two million /tu: milyən/

1000,000,000 = one billion /wan bilyən/

8000,000,000 = eight billion /eit bilyən/

1.000.000.000.000 = one trillion /trilyən/

etc.

catatan :

a. Billion (di Amerika dan Prancis), yaitu : 1,000,000,000 = satu milyar / seribu juta

b. Sekarang billion di Inggris juga adalah 1.000.000.000 (satu milyar/seribu juta) sama seperti di tempat lain. Billion 'lama' yaitu 1000.000.000.000 (seribu milyar) sekarang menjadi trillion. (Di kutip dari theguardian.com)

2. Kata Bilangan Tingkat (Ordinal Number)

Bilangan tingkat (Ordinal numbers) adalah bilangan atau angka yang digunakan untuk menjelaskan posisi, urutan atau tingkatan. Dalam penggunaannya ordinal numbers diawali dengan kata 'the'.

Berikut adalah Ordinal Number dalam bahasa Inggris:

1^st = the first /dhə fə:rst/ : pertama

2^nd = the second / dhə sekənd/ : kedua

3^rd = the third / dhə thə:rd/ : ketiga

4^th = the fourth / dhə fo:rth/ : keempat

5^th= the fifth / dhə fifth/ : kelima

6^th = the sixth / dhə siksth/ : keenam

7^th = the seventh / dhə sevənth/ : ketujuh

8^th = the eighth /dhi eith/ : kedelapan

9^th = the ninth / dhə ninth/ : kesembilan

10^th = the tenth / dhə tenth/ : kesepuluh

11^th = the eleventh /dhi i`levənth/ : kesebelas

12^th = the twelfth / dhə tweləvth/ : kedua belas

13^th = the thirteenth / dhə thər`ti:nth/ : ketiga belas

14^th = the fourteenth / dhə for`ti:nth/ : keempat belas

15^th = the fifteenth / dhə fif`ti:nth/ : kelima belas

16^th= the sixteenth / dhə siks`ti:nth/ : keenam belas

17^th = the seventeenth / dhə sevən`ti:nth/ : ketujuh belas

18^th = the eighteenth /dhi eit`ti:nth/ : kedelapan belas

19^th = the nineteenth / dhə nain`ti:nth/ : kesembilan belas

20^th = the twentieth / dhə twen`ti:th/ : kedua puluh

21^st = the twenty first : kedua puluh satu

22^nd = the twenty second : kedua puluh dua

23^rd = the twenty third : kedua puluh tiga

24^th = the twenty fourth : kedua puluh empat

25^th = the twenty fifth : kedua puluh enam

27^th = the twenty seventh : kedua puluh tujuh

28^th = the twenty eighth : kedua puluh delapan

29^th = the twenty ninth : kedua puluh sembilan

30^th = the thirtieth / dhə `thə:rti:th/ : ketiga puluh

40^th = the fortieth / dhə `forti:th/ : keempat puluh

50^th = the fiftieth / dhə `fifti:th/ : kelima puluh

60^th = the sixtieth / dhə `siksti:th/ : keenam puluh

70^th = the seventieth / dhə `sevənti:th/ : ketujuh puluh

80^th = the eightieth / dhə `eiti:th/ : kedelapan puluh

90^th = the ninetieth /`dhə nainti:th/ : kesembilan puluh

100^th = the one hundredth / dhə wan handrədth/ : keseratus

101^st = the one hundred and first : keseratus satu

105^th = the one hundred and fifth : keseratus lima

125^th = the one hundred and twenty-fifth : keseratus dua puluh lima

1000^th = the one thousandth / dhə wan tauzəndth/ : keseribu

dan seterusnya.

3. Kata Bilangan Pecahan (Fraction Number)

Cara penulisan dan pengucapan bilangan pecahan dalam bahasa Inggris adalah jika pembilangnya 1 (satu), cukup ditulis dengan “a” tapi bila pembilangnya lebih dari satu maka ditulis sesuai dengan bilangan tersebut, namun penyebutnya harus ditulis dengan bilangan tingkat.

Contoh :

1/2 = a half /ə`haef/

1/3 = a third

1/4 = a fourth atau a quarter /ə`kuortər/

1/5 = a fifth

1/6 = a sixth

1/7 = a seventh

1/8 = an eighth

1/9 = a ninth

1/10 = a tenth

2/3 = two-third

5/6 = five-sixth

8/11 = eight-eleventh

3 ½ = three and a half

6 ¼ = six and a fourth

Etc.

Untuk pecahan desimal (Decimal Fraction) dalam bahasa Inggris ditulis dengan tanda titik (.) yang dibaca dengan point, bukan dengan tanda koma (,)

Contoh :

0.5 = zero point five

5.6 = five point six

3.15 = three point one five

1000.45= one thousand point four five

Etc.
